West End
Arguably...
Brisbane's cultural melting pot, West End lies southwest of the CBD and is easily accessible from Grey Street or Victoria Bridge. Historically, it's where the city's ethnic enclaves have lived, and it still houses Brisbane's largest Greek and Aboriginal populations, as well as sizable Italian and Chinese communities. It's this cosmopolitan feel that's drawing in young professionals and artists from other suburbs, keen to soak up the community vibe and natural friendliness that permeates here.
The beating heart...
of West End is undoubtedly Boundary Street, the north-south artery where most West Enders come to shop, gossip and watch the world go by in one of the many pavement and courtyard bars and cafes. It's full of interesting little shops and boutiques, ethnic grocery stores, vintage clothing shops and second hand bookstores, as well as being home to one of Brisbane's smallest libraries (Kulripa Library) and the famous Markets Shopping Centre.
To the west...
by the river, is Davies Park, where you can find a fantastic Farmer's Market every Saturday, and the newly-restored West End Ferry Wharf at the bottom of Boundary Street, is where you can catch the City Cat on the UQSL-Apollo Road route.
