Description

Begin with a 4WD drive across the sandy tracks of Bribie Island National Park. On the open beach, take in views of waves, headlands, and occasional sea eagles as you approach the tee-tree-lined lagoons for kayaking.

Paddle through Norfolk Lagoon or an alternate lagoon depending on conditions. Navigate calm, reflective waters surrounded by paperbarks and native bush, observing bird species like the whistling kite and osprey. This peaceful setting highlights Bribie Island’s wildlife, including kangaroos, lace monitors, and migratory birds, offering excellent opportunities for photography.

Next, visit Fort Bribie’s historic World War II bunkers. Built in the early 1940s to defend Moreton Bay and Brisbane, the concrete structures now blend into the dunes. A guide will explain their military significance and share stories of the soldiers stationed there.

After exploring, enjoy a seafood beach picnic featuring locally caught Queensland prawns, Moreton Bay bugs (seasonal), ham or chicken salad rolls, seasonal fruit, and a grazing platter. Adults receive a complimentary glass of wine or beer, while children are offered soft drinks. This Sea-to-Table lunch sets a relaxed pace by the ocean.

On the return drive down the beach, watch for dolphins frequently seen cruising offshore—a fitting end to the day.
