Refurbished in 2009, Urbane offers a contemporary, high end dining experience, with an intricate degustation menu, earthy interior, and exquisite attention to detail. Lots of intimate dining tables and impossibly shiny tableware instal a welcome feeling of confidence, and you just know that, whatever you're going to order, you won't be disappointed. Diners can choose from 2 or 3 course a la carte dishes, including yellowtail kingfish confit, Berkshire pork cheek, and Tajima beef entrees, and duck breast with cherry, lamb in yoghurt, and baby snapper, crab and cockle mains, plus a beautiful range of desserts and cheese. True gastronomes will doubtless want to try the ever-changing degustation menus, 7 or 12 course, which offer sublime amuse bouches and delectable plates such as lobster tartare, marjoram sorbet, Chawan mushi, and hazelnut & pistachio streusel. Unusually, Urbane also offers a vegetarian degustation menu, a major selling point, and something other restaurants don't seem to have caught on with, yet. Wine matching is also available, or you can mix and match from the extensive wine list.
Downstairs, is the cellar dining room, called Sub-Urbane, offering very intimate dining for up to 32 people, in a warm, century-old atmosphere of wood and stone, but there's nothing musty about the menu, offering all the best from Urbane's kitchen. For a less formal dinner, try The Euro next door, a very impressive brasserie-style restaurant, combining modernist metallic sculpture with traditional Frenchness, and a menu of hot and cold starters, and classic fish, pasta and meat mains. Behind The Euro, is The Laneway, one of Brisbane's most cosmopolitan bars, and a popular after-work haunt for the city's business crowd. Enjoy a classy cocktail and some delicious bar light bites, as you sit back and take the weight off after a hard day shopping.
