The Buffalo Club is owner, Daniel Bechly's, vision of where Ernest Hemingway might eat if he were living in 21st century Brisbane. It's a swish place, with spacious (and spotless) tables, high end fixtures and fittings, and flawless tableware. It's a good idea to start off your evening in the laid back (but no less stylish) bar area, where you can sample not just one of the stunning vintages from the Buffalo Club wine list, but also some fantastic food from the 5-course 'Wild Buffalo' menu (midweek only). You can also see chef, Ashly Hicks, at work in the open kitchen, which adds to the intimate atmosphere of The Buffalo Club. You're also treated to great views across the Valley, from the corner of Wickham and Brunswick Streets, so it's no wonder that many Brisbanians come here to idle away an hour or two. The degustation-style menu offers two options, the 8-course Cape Buffalo menu or, for serious gastronomes, the 12-course White Buffalo menu. Matching wines can be added to your dining experience, or feel free to mix and match your own choices. Fridays, why not start the weekend in style, with a 5-course lunch and, because the dishes change daily, half the excitement of coming here is being presented with that tantalising sealed white envelope which reveals your treats for the evening – so indulgent!

All produce is fresh and seasonal, so expect to be dazzled by dishes such as Kim Chi pork with soy and coriander, octopus with aubergine, samphire and wakame, and Wagyu beef with onion, garlic and tomato. Everything is presented beautifully, each course is timed to perfection, and some of the flavour combinations here simply have to be tasted to be believed. For a very special occasion, you can even book the 10-seat Chef's Table, where Ashly will cook just for you, creating dishes at the table, with Daniel on hand to match the wine – quite simply the most luxurious culinary experience you'll find in Brisbane.
