South Bank

Part of South Brisbane...
Across the river from the CBD, South Bank occupies the former site of World Expo 88, so it's not surprising that it's here you'll find the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Queensland Maritime Museum and Queensland Cultural Centre (incorporating art galleries, a performing arts centre, cafes, a museum and the State Library of Queensland).
Grey Street...
Is the main road through South Bank, and offers an arty mix of restaurants, bars, cinemas and some high end boutiques. Saturday nights, especially, are great for wandering around South Bank,  where you'll find a heady mix of street food, stalls, buskers, and an intoxicating vibe. Together with neighbouring Little Stanley, it's a hip community of trendy professionals and chilled-out navel gazers, and is where you'll find some of Brisbane's most beautiful people, sitting in the park or browsing the galleries, waiting to be 'discovered'.  The scenic Parklands, along the river bank, is home to the famous Wheel of Brisbane and Nepal Peace Pagoda, and has plenty of shady picnic spots to sit and enjoy a packed lunch.

Another popular attraction is...
Streets Beach; a man-made lagoon and beach, which understandably gets packed out at weekends, but which offers fantastic views of the city skyline, as you lounge about in cool, crystal blue waters. If you're after a lazy day wandering the shops and markets, mooching around a bar or three, or messing about on the water, then head for the playground that is South Bank.
