New Farm & Teneriffe

East of the CBD...
On its own peninsula, are the suburbs of New Farm and Teneriffe. Easily accessible from Brunswick Street, running south from Fortitude Valley, the north end has quite a city feel, with lots of hip bars, cafes and a great selection of fashion labels, including some of Australia's home-grown best, but the further into New Farm you get, the more laid back it becomes, with wide, tree-lined avenues and more space.
It's also known as "Little Italy"...
For it's large Italian community, borne out by the excellent Trattorias and cafes dotted around the streets. In the eastern tip, is The Powerhouse, a former power station and now a multi-arts venue with galleries, theatre, cinema, bar and restaurant, popular with the in-crowd. For shopping, Merthyr Village is a big draw, as is James Street, where you can work your way down through Teneriffe, past the cinema, market, and eclectic mix of independent boutiques. All around, you'll find small galleries, artist's workshops and wide open spaces, though you can disappear back into the "Neighbours"-like residential streets at any time, or maybe explore the pretty New Farm Park, which stretches all the way down to the river and forms part of the popular Brisbane Riverwalk.
New Farm combines real, Brisbane living...
With the proximity of the city, and it has its own vibe, which is welcoming, inviting and just so easy to fall into. New Farm is also where you'll find many of the city's gay-friendly bars and clubs, around its borders with the clubbing hotspot of Fortitude Valley.
