Kangaroo Point & Woolloongabba

Occupying a narrow peninsula...
east of the city, and linked to the CBD by Story Bridge, Kangaroo Point is a mix of modern, waterfront apartment blocks, spacious parkland, cycle tracks, commercial units and a selective bar and entertainment scene.
The Kangaroo Point Cliffs...
overlook the river, and are a popular destination for abseilers, climbers and walkers and offer superb views of the city. Brisbane Jazz Club is situated at the extreme northern tip of Kangaroo Point, and other small, but perfectly formed bars and eateries can be found nestled in amongst the expensive apartments and walking paths that follow the river. The vast Bradfield Highway/Main Street runs through the middle of the peninsula, and provides an easy way of reaching South Bank and West End from the north, without having to go through the city.
South of Kangaroo Point, is the sprawling, traditionally working class suburb of Woolloongabba. Bisected by the Pacific Motorway, it's full of retail units, industrial yards, transport depots, apartment blocks, and is also home to the huge Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The most famous...
Attraction here, though, is Brisbane Cricket Ground which, like the area as a whole, is affectionately known as 'The Gabba'. It's a popular commuter suburb because of the many different ways of getting into the city, the short journey times, and its relatively cheap property prices compared to nearby West End and South Bank, but with its burgeoning reputation as an up-and-coming place to live, and the newly-thriving bar scene around Logan Road, it won't be long before Woolloongabba falls into line with its more affluent neighbours.
